What to Expect In A Dance Audition

Preparing for a dance audition can take a lot of time, and you have to be prepared physically and mentally for the audition. You may have many dance auditions lined up, but you have to want the part to get it, and really play the part. Many of times some of the best dancers will not get the part because they cannot either perform under the pressure, or cannot learn a dance in the little amount of time they give you. If you know what to expect, you will be able to perform a lot better.

The first thing you need to do before the dance audition is be mentally and physically prepared to give it your best. Do not expect to be accepted on your first audition, and do not feel upset if you do not get the part. Think of each dance audition as a learning experience, and that you will only get better after each and every audition. You also cannot be discouraged if you felt you were the best but still did not get the part. Some casters are looking for specific heights and styles, and you may just not have fit what they were looking for.

You can expect quite a bit of large crowds at a dance audition. Depending on the size of the role that you auditioning for, there may be hundreds or even thousands of people trying out for just a couple of parts. Do not let that intimidate you. You will just have to make a point in your dance audition to stand out in the crowd, so that the casting people will remember you specifically. This will help you get your name out there and even possibly get the part.

Dance auditions are a great way to network with other dancers. You may not get the part that you are auditioning for, but you may be able to find out about other dance auditions coming up in your area. Your fellow dancers will also be able to help you find out about other auditions, as well as give you tips to improve your performance.
You will want to expect to be quite stressed your first few auditions. The more auditions that you go through, the easier they will come. It is important that you do not show your stress in your performance, as you will be prone to making mistakes that will show to the casting crew. Do not get your hopes up on your first few auditions, it may take a few auditions before you feel more comfortable and show off your true skills.

Dance auditions can be really stressful, especially if you are getting your hopes up in that you will get the part. Try and stay focused and you will have a successful audition.
